What is it with mother’s day?

I always thought that since no one could really pay back all the things that a mother does to her children such as risk her life to bring a life into this world, or how about unprioritize her dreams just so her child’s dreams could come true, not to mention nursing, nurturing, sleepless nights and woeful days, or simply getting disfigured, then why try paying back at all. Being a mother myself, I wish that during Mother’s Day, mothers around the world could just get a big day off being a mother. It doesn’t even have to be a day for pampering, roses, breakfast in bed and gifts to remind her that she’s a mother, as if every single day isn’t enough reminder, as if there's not enough consumerism in the world. Just one day to be not a mom, not thinking and fixing food on the table, not reminding children to brush their teeth, comb their hair and wash their hands before eating, not thinking about the kitchen, maids, gardening and that man walking around the house, acting like a furniture, whom she faintly remembers as her husband.

Mother’s day should be a day to remind a mother of her being a woman, primarily. One day to not forget that she is someone who has dreams, ambitions, self-worth, a woman who deserves a love back. It should be a day to be glamorous, far away from maddening family routines and issues. Mother’s day should be a day for mothers to be alone with the universe, revitalizing her energies with the energies of Mother Earth so that when Mother’s day ends, she can take the role again with conviction, commitment and passion able to endure another year of being the super mom that she is.
